Laurie Ferguson has encouraged Australia's Sikh youths to continue to connect with the wider community.

Mr Ferguson officially opened the 12th Annual Sikh camp at the NSW Institute of Sports in Narrabeen on January 13. The from January 12-17 camp, organised by Sikh Youth Australia (SYA), saw more than 300 Sikh youths come together from all over Australia in the largest event of its kind.

Mr Ferguson said he was pleased to see Sikhs from all generations at the camp. He was impressed the generations were working together to keep the community's values alive.

But he stressed that migrant communities like the Sikhs needed to connect with wider Australia.

’This is crucial, we can't help people unless they reach out,‘ he said.

As he launched the SYA's new website, Mr Ferguson was quick to pick up on the catch-cry of the youth on the website: ’Are you connected?‘

’Connect with Australia, integrate and we can all make Australia a great place to call home,‘ he said.

Project manager for the website's creation, university student Saranpaal Singh Calais, said the new website would help Sikh youth Australia-wide connect with their community, their religious roots and still move with the times.

Those interested in looking at the website can do so at Sikh Youth Australia.
