Laurie Ferguson represented the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, at the 60th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which thousands of people attended at the Sydney Opera House on September 6.
The parliamentary secretary said both China and Australia have been blessed through our strong trade, education and people-to-people links, with the consequent forming of friendships, cultural exchange and a range of collaborative ventures. He noted China is Australia's largest source of imports and second largest recipient of Australian exports. Mr Ferguson also spoke about Australia's long and productive relationship with China and the valuable contribution of the large and vibrant Chinese communities in Australia.
