The Minister meets displaced families from Burma.
Australian Minister of Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, met refugee women and children in New Delhi recently during an event with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
Senator Evans toured the UNHCR-operated Women's Protection Clinic in New Delhi on July 22 as part of his trip to India and Sri Lanka.
Since the clinic opened in 2005, some 1250 women and girls from Burma's ethnic Chin community have received counselling support, while the clinic now also welcomes female asylum seekers from Burma.
The centre is financially supported by the Australian Government, and during his visit, Senator Evans pledged ongoing assistance.
As well as providing emotional support to refugees, the clinic helps the UNHCR to identify the vulnerable people most in need of resettlement to a third country.
