Senator Chris Evans presided over an Australian citizenship ceremony at the Albert Hall 80th anniversary in Canberra, in March 2008.
In warmly welcoming the conferees, the minister highlighted the importance of their decision to become an Australian citizen.
He also reflected on the contribution of some four million people from more than 200 countries who have chosen to become Australian citizens since 1949.
The new citizens at the Albert Hall ceremony came from Bolivia, Chile, Fiji, Iraq, Iran, the Sudan and many other countries, displaying the diversity of Australia’s immigration program.
