The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, has officially opened the new Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) office in Western Australia.

The new client service area of the recently opened DIAC office in Perth.

'The new building and upgraded facilities will enable staff to provide a better service to our stakeholders and our clients means all the department's clients can go to one location to have their needs met.'

Improvements to facilities in the new building mean there is more space to deal with clients face-to-face, significantly reducing client waiting times.

New touch screens direct clients more efficiently to the relevant visa or citizenship counter. There are also dedicated telephone lines for priority clients and migration agents.

More than 380 DIAC staff moved into the new building at Wellington Central, 836 Wellington Street in West Perth last month. Office hours are from 9am to 4pm weekdays and all client services are located on the third floor. The department last moved offices in Perth in 2001.
