Acting Prime Minister meets the Dalai Lama

The Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, today met the Dalai Lama in Sydney.
Senator Evans held talks with His Holiness during the Dalai Lama's Australian visit.
On behalf of the Australian Government, Senator Evans welcomed the Dalai Lama to Australia.
Senator Evans said his discussion with the Dalai Lama was open and informative.
The Dalai Lama provided his perspective on the situation in Tibet and his interest in engaging in dialogue with China in the lead up to the Olympic Games.
The Dalai Lama also congratulated the Rudd Government for its apology to the stolen generation earlier this year.
Senator Evans expressed the Australian Government’s keenness to encourage both the Dalai Lama and China to continue their dialogue.
